January Oxtales

Welcome to 2023, and here’s your first Oxtales of the year! We have our fingers crossed for a more ‘normal’ year and lots of events to attend! Our new repeater site is powering along thanks to a massive effort. Thanks as always to everyone who contributes to Oxtales, and to the Oxtales team of John VK2AYQ and Arthur VK2ATM.

VK2RCN DMR Repeater Back Online!

The club is pleased to be able to report that the VK2RCN DMR Radnet repeater went into service on Thursday the 2nd of February at our new repeater site! The intensive working bees are continuing, and the permanent installation of the repeaters and support equipment is well advanced. The site will be formally commissioned early February 2023 when all the VK2RCN repeaters have been tested.

Note that some changes are occurring on the VKDMR Network as detailed here. Some radio re-programming will be required as of the 9th February 2023. ORARC is planning a radio reprogramming clinic to assist members with the changes – stay tuned for further information.

First repeaters operational at new Telegraph Point site

Henry VK2ZHE writes:

After a lot of hard work to install off-grid solar power, the club’s Telegraph Point VK2RCN 2 Metre 147.0 MHz voice repeater is now back on air from the new site in time for Christmas. This repeater has the standard minus 600 kHz offset and does not require CTCSS to access it.

The VK2RCN 438.425 MHz voice repeater is temporarily on air to enable UHF coverage to be assessed. It uses minus 5 Mhz offset and requires 123 Hz CTCSS for access. It will be replaced by the RadNet DMR repeater early in the New Year.

The site will be formally commissioned later in January 2023 when the fit out of the equipment shelter has been completed and all the VK2RCN repeaters including the APRS digipeater and the 53.8 MHz 6 metre repeater have been permanently installed and tested.

The 2 metre and 70cm coverage from the new VK2RCN site is excellent with very strong signals in Port Macquarie and Wauchope in particular with many distant station also able to access the repeaters. Please take the opportunity to come up on the VK2RCN 147.0 and 438.425 MHz repeaters and see how the signals are at your QTH and along the routes that you travel in your mobiles.

Merry Christmas! 😀
